Fair Maps in NC: From the Courts to Legislation

May 8 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

This could be the year that fair maps come to NC! Even as we await a Supreme Court ruling on the end of gerrymandering, there is legislation before the General Assembly that would change the way political maps are drawn in our state. Among the proposals is a process that would place this power in the hands of the people, through the creation of an independent redistricting commission.

Join Common Cause NC and our partners in the Bryan Junior Auditorium at Guilford College as we hear from members of the California Citizens Redistricting Commission who will discuss the path and challenges to achieving independence, transparency, and equity in reform. We’ll also hear about other proposals before the General Assembly, and how we as citizens can be advocates for fair maps.

Co-sponsors: Democracy NC, Greensboro Voter Alliance, Greensboro Chapter of the NAACP (youth division)

To get to the closest parking, coming from downtown on Friendly Avenue, turn right on New Garden Road, then take another right at the second stoplight onto campus via George Fox Road. Take the first right into the parking lot, and go to the south end of the parking lot where you’ll find visitor parking. Frank Family Science Center is next to the turn you made into the parking lot.
