Focus on Tillis’s corrupt campaign contributions
January 14 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm ESTFree
Tuesdays with Tillis and all the people living in the Triangle have a great opportunity on Tuesday 1/14 to make a tremendous impact on the 2020 election. There is a French filmmaker / journalist who is coming to Raleigh to film the next rally at the Terry Sandford Federal Building 310 New Bern Ave Raleigh NC 27601. The rally is from 11:30-12:30.
Please read below for details on what this documentary will be about. We could make a big statement with a large crowd to show the world what 155 consecutive weeks can accomplish? If you are available and can spare a couple of hours please attend.
This documentary will not only cover the race to the White House, but the elections throughout the country, from the Federal to the local level. The film will deal with the role of money in electoral campaigns, from corporate donations to small donors’ money. As 2020 will mark the tenth anniversary of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, money in politics will definitely be one of the main issue of this election cycle. This is also shown by the decision made by numerous candidates to reject corporate money.
The purpose of the film is to follow several candidates during the electoral process and to illustrate the impact money in politics has had for several years on key issues for the American people – or even the rest of the world – like health care, climate change or financial regulations.
For this documentary, I will follow several races in North Carolina, from the State legislature to Congress. I have already met several people and activists in the State who have agreed to take part in the documentary.
One of the race I want to cover is Thom Tillis’ reelection bid to the US Senate, because I think he embodies in many respects the issue of money in politics. He received important direct campaign contributions from the business community (pharmaceutical companies and financial institutions for example) and he was elected in 2014 with the help of Carolina Rising, a dark money group that spent almost 5 millions on his behalf.
During my research I have come across your group “Tuesday with Tillis” and the weekly demonstrations that your organize. Of course, i find it very interested and I think it would be very valuable to have you in the documentary. I will be in North Carolina around mid-January for the first shootings and I was thinking it could be a good opportunity to film one of this event, provided you are ok with the idea.
