K-3 Literacy Assessment hearing with NC Dept of Info Technology
January 8 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST
Join us to observe the Istation / mClass contract hearing by the Department of Information Technology. It will likely last 4 days. Information is subject to changes, and we will do our best to post updates as we are aware of them. Please check back here for updates.
The hearing to determine whether Istation was procured legally was moved from 12/9 to 1/13 (decision to move it was made Tuesday 11/19 during the Settlement Conference at the Office of Administrative Hearings).
The hearing will happen at the Office of Administrative Hearings in Raleigh and it’s open to the public. It will begin Monday 1/13/20 at 9:30 AM and likely continue for four days. I will be there and will be sharing updates in real time, likely on Twitter.
Until then, the only reason we’re using Istation at all is because there is a temporary memorandum of agreement wherein Istation is providing the assessment and training at no cost. They’re doing this because the Department of Information Technology issued a stay on the actual contract, due to concerns about the legality of the procurement. The memorandum of agreement expires 12/31/19 but I suspect it’ll be extended.
Istation’s research claims are highly concerning, the procurement process with DPI was a mess, and there is clearly inequity in access to technology impacting the assessment. Not to mention the significant *increase* in testing for our youngest students, which is being billed as “less testing.” (I’m happy to back up all these claims with actual data for anyone interested!)
