GREENSBORO – Teach In & Take Action: Safety, Justice & Wellbeing for All
January 18 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm EST
Childcare will be provided.
Greensboro is getting a new Chief of Police in January. Regardless of who this chief is, there are concrete changes that would benefit our community that we need to work towards.
There’s been an ad-hoc organizing crew in Greensboro who’s been organizing around the new police chief hiring process to advance a vision for safety, justice, and well-being for all Greensboro residents.
In the fall, we organized and released an open letter & set of criteria we wanted to demand of the process and the incoming police chief. The city is moving faster on the hiring process than we initially expected, and while we were hoping there would be a public forum with the finalists, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen — but we’ll see!
We’re pulling together a teach in on Saturday January 18, from 2-4:30pm. Location to be determined. We’ll be doing some political education, share where in the hiring process the city is, and a chance to take action together by workshopping speeches to city council members as well as email to councilors and the assistant city manager Trey Davis.
